18 Month Check Up

Cassie, Mimi and I went to visit Dr. Reddy yesterday for Cassie's 18 month checkup. Here are the "stats":

Height: 33 inches (86%)
Weight: 24 9.9 pounds (55%)

We found out that "most" 18 month olds have 15-20 words they use...if you saw the list I made last week, you know that Cassie is WAY above that expectation. Guess she's a natural "communicator" like her Poppi and GAA (Great Aunt Ann).

Some things I'll be working on as a result of the visit:

• Encouraging Cassie to use a spoon to feed herself (hard for me since she makes such a mess!)
• Limit TV watching to ONE hour as day (as recommended by her doctor)
• Limit her milk to 2 cups per day (yikes...this will be hard as she's a little milk-aholic!)
• Continue guiding her toward potty training

Sadly, Cassie woke up from her nap on Tuesday with a cold. No playgroup or nursery for us until that's better! Bummer. I wonder if watching American Idol on DVR counts toward Cassie's 1 hour TV limit? :)

Learning to love Jesus in Beth Moore's house

I've been reading Beth Moore's blog lately...the text below is from a Q & A post Beth's daughter, Amanda, wrote. It sparked something in me that I think needs more thought...while it's marinating in my brain, I wanted to "clip" it to save for parenting Cassie down the road.

How did your mom pass on her passion for Christ to you girls?
More than anything, I think we saw her abundant life and knew that it was because of her commitment to and love for Christ. We also spent lots of time talking about the Lord and worshipping Him together through contemporary Christian music. (Much of this happened while we were driving in the car. That’s one reason I can be thankful for Houston traffic.) I always had lots of spiritual questions and we had some awesome conversations about the Lord through those. One of the main things she taught me was to submit myself to Christ every single day so that I could be dead to my flesh and alive in the Spirit. In other words, have my quiet time! (See Galatians 5:16-18.)Melissa and I both went through a time when we had to make our faith “our own” and choose for ourselves whether we would continue to follow Christ when our parents weren’t there to direct our steps. I think we both got a taste of the world and learned the hard way that abundant life was only found in Christ.

What is the best advice your mom ever gave you?Choose joy. “This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 188:24)
