Why "Masker"?

My photo
Northern Virginia, United States
In college, I was a member of a sorority that was known as Maskers. There were 11 of us girls, all juniors, and 11 seniors. I was the 1997-1998 Masker #7. It was a highlight of my college years and I have used it for computer user ids since then. In the 10 years that have followed, however, I am learning the value of taking off the fake "Mask" and being true and authentic with myself and others. THAT is the purpose of my blog.

Guest Blogger II: My 'Papa

Cassie is our newest guest blogger:

Hello to Mommy's Blog-friends!
As you may have heard, my 'Papa is feeling sad right now. His mommy (my Great-Grammy) went to be with Jesus last night. My Mommy told me that Great-Grammy is very happy to move to Heaven but 'Papa will miss her very much. That's my 'Papa in the picture at the left, my Granma too. Aren't they nice looking people? You can tell they love me, can't you? Granma sends me emails all the time and even leaves phone messages just to tell me she loves me! I don't get to see them as much as my Mimi and Poppi but I love them just the same. Mommy and I were thinking and praying for my 'Papa today and she thought it might be nice to put together a photo collection of my 'Papa, starting with his hat.

My 'Papa's hat isn't anything super-special (even though it looks like a magical hat hovering over my Daddy's head) but I like it because it reminds me of him. When I see people wearing hats, I always ask my Mommy if it's 'Papa.

I love to watch trains on television because they remind me of the special times I've gotten to play with my 'Papa's train. I love my 'Papa and the way he gets on the floor to play with me, tickle me or just let me mess up his train cities!

Another thing I love about my 'Papa is how he teaches me and my cousins about Jesus. He doesn't get mad if we get squirmy during his Bible stories...he just loves us and accepts the fact that we're only little kids.
Now, my last photo: In this picture, I wasn't feeling like smiling so my Papa did it for me. He loved me even with a sad face. I think maybe today, 'Papa won't feel like smiling but, don't you worry...I love you even with a sad face, 'Papa. I'm praying that Jesus will send a smile to your heart! I love you and am smiling for you while you're sad.

Addendum: Several have asked, "Where's Tim in these pictures?" Yes, he is still in the family! He suddenly went out of town that week so we just had to do without him! We plan to do a Hoffman-three picture soon!

Here are the pictures we ordered from our JC Penny adventure on 1/23/08:

Guest Blogger-Tim!

Okay, so he's not really guest blogging...I'm just cutting and pasting an email he sent to my family last night. Read Below:

My grandmother (my dad's mom) passed away within the last hour (8-9pm 1/31/08). The entire family- 5 brothers and Aunt Mary Ann, and spouses, were in the room with her when she passed away. My mom said she could tell the moment when she left this world. My dad is having a much harder time because his mom really kept everything going in the family. She was a true prayer warrior as well.

The burial will be Monday or Tuesday, with a memorial service next Saturday.
