Why "Masker"?

My photo
Northern Virginia, United States
In college, I was a member of a sorority that was known as Maskers. There were 11 of us girls, all juniors, and 11 seniors. I was the 1997-1998 Masker #7. It was a highlight of my college years and I have used it for computer user ids since then. In the 10 years that have followed, however, I am learning the value of taking off the fake "Mask" and being true and authentic with myself and others. THAT is the purpose of my blog.

Good Book for Parents--Find it at your local library!

I LOVE the library! I could seriously live there! :) Here's one of my latest finds...they have over 10 copies in the Fairfax library system so hop on over to pick up a copy! I think I might just purchase this one for our home library...

This handy book offers sensible language and explanations for handling specific situations inevitable in raising young children. Braun's down-to-earth advice is delivered with humor and derived from her expertise as a child-development specialist and parent educator

Healthy Habits

My friend, Dina, has an idea to help us stay accountable via the internet...here's a link to her post: http://thefelts.blogspot.com/2008/08/accblogability-buddies.html

I'm gonna join in...I'm pasting my comments to Dina below:
Well, of course I'll join you! I can't say no to healthy habit building! :)
My goal has been to do SOMETHING for exercise every day for the month of August. So far, so good...I've jogged or gymmed every day (unofficially, I aim for 1 hour or 300 calories burned--according to my heart rate monitor).
My other goal is to reduce "screen time" for me and the family...I spend too much time on the computer, to the neglect of other healthy habits (sigh).
Finally, healthy meal planning is on my goal list. I do "okay" here but it's stressful and last minute so I'd like to be more intentional with it. I suppose I should put this on my blog so I don't leave uber-long comments. We'll figure this out as we go...important thing is to get started! :)
